Cellular Luddite

At the beginning of this year I vaguely predicted that this year might be the year I got a cell phone. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, my new phone arrived.

I haven't been in a hurry to get a cell phone, mostly because I don't talk on the phone very much (I prefer email). The occasional convenience of actually having a phone has always been balanced by the constant inconvenience of having to carry the phone around with me all the time.

But I got a phone that is small enough to fit inconspicuously in my jeans pocket, the Samsung E316. I've been pretty pleased with it. It charges quickly (about 3 hours), and goes several days between charges. Seems to have decent reception and adequate sound quality. It's a 3G phone, I guess, which means I can send/receive multimedia messages and browse the web with it, although from what I've seen so far browsing the web with a phone sucks. Most pages time out before the page arrives, and scrolling around in that keyhole of a window is painful.

So far I have only had my phone crash once (while browsing the web, naturally). To reset it I had to remove the battery and then power cycle.

So if you want to call me...well, you can send email. ;-) But if you really want to call you can call me on my new cell phone. (Just send email and I'll give you the number.)
